Dora Garcia Acosta

Dora Garcia Acosta passed away
at peace surrounded
by her loving family on April 17, 2012
in Houston, Texas.

Dora was born on October 3, 1923 in Baytown, Texas
and she is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse G. Acosta,
parents, Remigio and Virginia Garcia, son, Rudy Acosta, brother,
Alfred Garcia, sister, Gloria Hinojosa,
and son-in-law, Jimmy Williams.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law;
Jaime and Shelia Acosta, Alan and Linda Acosta,
Geraldo and Carol Acosta, David and Mary Acosta, all of Houston,
and daughter, Deanna Williams, of Galveston;
sister, Virginia Perez, of Ellenwood, GA,
brothers and sisters-in-law;
Robert and Olivia Garcia, of Houston, Daniel "B.B."
and Magda Garcia, of Baytown,
brothers, Raymond Garcia, of La Porte,
and Remigio "Sparks" Garcia, of Baytown.

She is also survived by her grandchildren;
Lisa Buss and husband, Brian, Jerry Michael Acosta,
Alan David Acosta, Kelly Puig and husband, Chase, Joel Williams, Carolina Acosta, David Ray Williams and wife, Nicole, Daniel Rezai, Hope Williams, Jaime Alexander Acosta, Matthew Williams, and Gabriela Acosta, and great-grandchildren; Taylor Ray Huckaby, and Sofia Buss.

Through the years, she touched the lives of countless others
including many loving nephews and nieces and many wonderful friends.
Her home was always open to the children of Old Baytown
and all of the friends of her children.

Dora attended Baytown schools including
DeZavala Elementary, Baytown Junior High, and Robert E. Lee High School.
She was a member of the PTA at DeZavala and St. Joseph's Catholic School.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Society of Guadalupanas in Baytown.
She was the original piano player of the famous all girl La Tipica Orchestra under Dr. Antonio Banuelos who noted that Dora was born with music in her soul.
She was a founder of Las Comadres Social Club of Baytown
and a member of Baytown Hawks Athletic Club.
She helped start The Little School of 400 which taught Spanish speaking children 400 basic English words to assimilate into American society.

Dora was an inspiration to all who knew her
and knew of her triumph over her tragic paralysis in 1968.
Her life is an example of triumph over adversity
and the tremendous power of Love.

Dear Acosta Family, I did not know Dora personally, but I wanted to offer my condolences. Please know you all can find comfort in God at this time. Rev. 21:4 speaks of a time when God will do away with Death.
