In Pearland, friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 4pm until 7pm in the evening on Thurs., the 3rd of Nov. at South Park Funeral Home, 1310 North Main St., Pearland, TX.
The memorial service is to be conducted at 10am on Fri., the 4th of Nov. at South Park Funeral Home. Rev. Craig S. King, Sr. of the First Presbyterian Church of Alvin will be the officiate. Marie Martha Allen , 89 of Houston, TX passed away on Oct. 31, 2011, due to medical complications from a stroke. Marie was born Dec. 20, 1921 in Alvin, TX. Upon graduation from Alvin HS, Marie went to work at a fig factory where she met her husband to be George Daniel Allen. Shortly after marrying George she went to work for Southwestern Bell and retired with 38 yrs. of service. They were married on Jan. 9, 1943 for 60 yrs. Marie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Alvin, the Alvin Mustang Club and the Southwestern Bell Pioneer Club.
Marie known as Auntie Ree by her family was a dear and loving wife, sister and aunt. Even though she did not have children of her own, she was like a second mother and grandmother to her niece and great nieces. She did so much for her community and family. She gave a lot of her time doing community work making teddy bears for day care centers, bibs and lap robes for the local nursing homes. Her specialty was her pecan pies and her pink salad that she made for holidays and special occasions. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, George Allen. She is survived by her sister, Edna Adams, her nieces Nora Richardson & husband, Floyd; Mavellen Greenbaum; Martha Miller & husband, Calvin; nephew, Douglas Attaway & wife, Diane; great-nieces, Michelle Hilborn & husband, Aaron; Marie Staines & husband, Jon; great-great nieces, Heather & Holly Hilborn and Alexis & Lily Staines.
