Jane Brett Altom (Elsie) Jane Altom, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Houston after suffering complications from surgery. Born Jane Brett (aka Elsie Jane) in Knoxville Tenn. to Elsie Retzlaff Brett of New Ulm, Minn. and Dr. Axel Brett of Upsala, Sweden, Jane attended the Univ. of Tenn. and the Univ. of NC at Chapel Hill for three years before marrying William Harvey Altom in 1947. After raising a family in Denver, Pennsylvania, Long Island, Cincinnati, and Houston, Jane returned to college to complete her BA in Psychology at the Univ. of Houston. She graduated in 1975. Later, Jane and Bill relocated to Tulsa and Fresno before retiring to their ranch near Cuero, Texas. Jane always lived life to the fullest and was actively involved in the Tri-Delta Sorority, the League of Women Voters, and taught Adult Literacy and Sunday School. Jane's current residence was at Terrace Assisted Living in Kingwood. Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill of 59 years in 2006, as well as her siblings, Dr. Roland Brett and Astrid Brett Shell, of Knoxville. She is survived by her three children, Dr. Mark Altom (Mary Jo), Kathleen Treadway, and Teresa Altom Parsekian (Richard); grandchildren John Altom (Deanne), Ara, Brett and Catherine Parsekian, and Eric Treadway; and great grandchildren, Jordan, William, and Jake Altom.
